Marathon Codex Challenges Help
Marathon Codex tracks every permanent challenge tied to titles, exploration zones, and feats of mastery. Four titles demand specific PvP plays, loot extractions, and intel collection that most players won't complete through casual play.
Three exploration zones each require dozens of exfiltrations, hundreds of containers, and collectible sets with semi-random spawns. LevelUpper covers every Codex title and zone – pick a single title, one zone, or go for complete Codex clearance across everything listed below.
Titles
Four title tracks, three under Titles tab and one under Feats of Mastery:
- Graverobber – 7 loot-focused challenges. Prestige rooms, key templates, high-value extractions. Unlocks Superior Profile Title and Horde Engine weapon style.
- Archivist – 8 intel challenges spanning all three zones and faction contracts. Full collectible completion required. Unlocks Superior Profile Title.
- Zonewarden – 7 PvP challenges including multi-kills, melee/grenade combos, and clutch exfiltrations. Unlocks Superior Profile Title and Optimized HC weapon style.
- Profiteer – Legend-tier feat requiring 1000000 credit account value. Only Prestige Profile Title currently available in Marathon.
Exploration Zones
Deployment zones, each with orientation milestones, region exploration, and collectible sets:
- Perimeter – 5 regions, 8 collectible sets, 25 exfiltrations. Rewards: Perimeter Survivor emblem, Active Trespasser background.
- Dire Marsh – 7 regions, 9 collectible sets, 25 exfiltrations. Rewards: Dire Marsh Survivor emblem, Marsh Runner background.
- Outpost – 5 regions, 10 collectible sets, 25 exfiltrations. Rewards: Outpost Survivor emblem, Greetings | Salutations background.
What Is Marathon Codex
Codex is Marathon's permanent challenge and progression tracking system. Five top-level tabs – Career, Loot, World, Factions, and Runner – branch into dozens of specific tracking categories. Unlike seasonal content that resets, every Codex challenge carries progress permanently. Complete a challenge in Season 1 and it stays done in Season 5.
Titles and exploration sit in different Codex tabs but share a common trait: they reward cosmetics that cannot be purchased through the in-game store, seasonal battle pass, or any other method.
The only way to get Graverobber title or Active Trespasser background is to complete the challenges. That exclusivity is what makes Codex cosmetics valuable – and what makes the grind worth skipping for players who want the rewards without hundreds of hours of specific gameplay.
Codex also tracks shell mastery and weapon style challenges in separate tabs. We cover them in dedicated category and service pages: Marathon Shell Skins(all 7 Runner shells) and Marathon Weapon Skins(all 9 weapon groups).
What Are Marathon Titles
Marathon currently features the following titles:
- Graverobber demands loot mastery – Prestige rooms, rare key templates, high-value single-run extractions, and the notoriously time-consuming Sentimental Value challenge (exfiltrating the same Enduring item three times, then selling it). Rewards focus on economy prestige.
- Archivist tracks intel and collectible completion across every zone and faction. It's the broadest title – completing it means finishing all collectible sets in Perimeter, Dire Marsh, and Outpost, plus all faction contract intel challenges. Most time-intensive title due to collectible spawn RNG.
- Zonewarden is pure PvP. Every challenge involves eliminating other Runners under specific conditions: triple kills as last survivor, melee-plus-grenade combos in one run, killing the Runner who eliminated you, finishing a downed Runner in an active exfil zone.
- Profiteer sits under Legend feats and requires 1000000 credits in account value. Only Prestige-tier title in Marathon – one rank above Superior.
Each title awards weapon styles, emblems, backgrounds, and stickers at individual challenge milestones – not just at full completion.
How Zone Exploration Works
Each of Marathon's zone challenges follows the same structure:
- Orientation covers basic milestones – complete a run in the zone, then exfiltrate 25 times. At realistic survival rates, that means 35–50 total deployments per zone.
- Region Exploration requires opening 25 containers in each sub-region. Perimeter and Outpost each have 5 regions (125 containers). Dire Marsh has 7 regions (175 containers). Region boundaries are not clearly marked on the in-game map.
- Collectibles are zone-specific lore items that spawn semi-randomly across deployments. Each zone has 8–10 sets, each with 4–6 items. Finding every item requires running through known spawn points across many deployments.
Completing all collectibles in a zone contributes to Archivist title progress. Full zone completion across all maps is required for the full Archivist title.

FAQ
What is Marathon Codex?
Codex is Marathon's permanent challenge tracking system. It records progress across career stats, loot milestones, world exploration, faction progression, and Runner shell mastery. Titles and exploration challenges sit here alongside weapon and shell mastery tracks. All progress is permanent.
Do Codex challenges reset between seasons?
No, they do not reset between seasons. Every Codex challenge retains progress permanently. Completed challenges, unlocked titles, and earned cosmetics stay on your account regardless of seasonal resets.
What's the difference between titles and feats of mastery?
Titles (Archivist, Graverobber, Zonewarden) have their own Codex tab with full challenge sets. Feats of mastery is a separate tab containing Legend-tier challenges like Profiteer. Both reward exclusive cosmetics, but Profiteer is the only Prestige-tier title (as of early Season One) – one rank above Superior.
Do exploration collectibles contribute to title progress?
Archivist specifically tracks collectible and intel completion across all zones. Finishing Perimeter, Dire Marsh, and Outpost collectible challenges feeds directly into Archivist title progress. Graverobber and Zonewarden are independent of exploration.
Are Codex cosmetics available in Marathon store?
No, they are not available in Marathon store. Codex rewards – titles, weapon styles, emblems, backgrounds, stickers – are earned exclusively through challenge completion. They cannot be purchased through the in-game store, seasonal battle pass, or any paid method.
