What Is Lockdown in Marathon?

Lockdown is a three-stage event that triggers in Dire Marsh when a large ship appears over a point of interest, roughly 13–15 minutes into a deployment. To start the event, you need a Data Corruption Access Card – a blue-icon item marked on the map – and the card carrier is the only one who can interact with the terminal.

Each stage works the same way: insert the Lockdown Drive, survive three UESC waves, collect the drive, rotate to the next site. The payout scales with how far you get. Stages one and two give lower-tier drops. Stage three is the only cache that guarantees Superior Cores and Superior-rarity salvage in a single run.

The event runs under constant corruption damage. Anti-Virus Packs are mandatory – each player needs at least three to survive a full three-stage clear.

What Are Superior Cores in Marathon?

Superior Cores are the top-tier passive equipment slot for Runner shells. They're not materials – they're pieces of gear that change how your kit plays. Each core is shell-specific and adds a passive mechanic beyond the shell's base abilities.

Examples: Bullrush for Destroyer keeps Riot Barricade from draining energy during Tactical Sprint. Adrenal Core for Vandal extends Amplify duration while Amplified. No Good Deed for Triage triggers a healing burst when Med-Drone attaches to a crewmate.

The right core for your shell can change the feel of an entire build. Lockdown's final cache is the most reliable place to farm them on Dire Marsh.

What Is Superior Salvage and Why Does It Matter?

Superior salvage is purple-rarity material used in two places: faction upgrade trees and Armory barter.

Each of the six factions has an upgrade tree that requires specific salvage types to advance. Higher-tier upgrades need Superior-rarity materials – the same tier that drops from Lockdown's final cache. Pushing faction rank without a supply of Superior salvage means slower tree progression and longer waits on Armory unlocks.

Armory barter lets you trade salvage directly to faction traders for consumables, ammo, and weapons without spending credits. Traxus specifically unlocks Superior mod barter at Rank 0 once the relevant upgrade is open. A steady supply of Superior salvage from Lockdown runs keeps faction progression moving and Armory barter available.

Lockdown also feeds your credit wallet through valuables. Superior (purple) valuables average around 4000 credits each on exfil and tend to come from events like this one. Prestige (yellow) valuables average around 12000, and the third stage of Lockdown is one of the places they can drop.

Lockdown stacks three problems in one run.

• First, it's a late-match event – you enter it after spending ammo, meds, and attention on earlier fights.
• Second, every squad on the map converges when the ship appears, so the event is contested from the moment it spawns.
• Third, the Anti-Virus requirement means you're managing consumables while fighting through three consecutive waves per stage.

Most failures happen after stage two. Teams push for the final cache when they're already low on resources, and one bad fight or a missed rotation kills the chain.

Timer keeps running while nobody works the objective. Solo players can complete stage one and sometimes stage two, but stage three under PvP pressure is where runs collapse.
