Best Ways to Farm Credits In Marathon - cover image

Best Ways to Farm Credits In Marathon

If you’re broke in Marathon, can’t sustain loadouts, or you’re staring at Cryo Archives with 5k credits left, this guide is for you.

The realistic baseline is 30,000+ credits per hour, but only if you stop picking up garbage.

What Gives You Credits?

Valuables. These are the items that auto-convert into credits after extraction.

Some weapons sell for a serious amount of credits, like V00 Zeus RG, V85 Circuit Breaker, or V99 Channel Rifle. You either get them as drops, or more commonly by looting players who brought them in after crafting through schemas (Marathon version of ARC Raiders blueprints). Even better if the weapon has a Bloodthirsty or Enduring trait, but this has it's own downsides. Still, the choice to sell them our use them is yours.

Shields, Implants, Backpacks or Cores with the Enduring trait. That includes weapons, as previously mentioned. But this isn't a reliable credit farming method, since only Superior items and above scale well with this trait, and you risk losing them every run.

So if we were to put a priority list, it would look like this:

  1. Valuables
  2. Weapons you won't use
  3. Enduring items

Marathon Outpost Credit Farm

Here’s the logic behind credit farm via valuables:

Standard (gray) valuables → ~30 credits on average per one item. Which means it's not something you should pick up at all, unless your contract dictates otherwise. This is a waste of a slot, honestly.

Enhanced (green) valuables → ~150 credits on average per one item. This is a filler at best and not something you should fill your inventory with on purpose.

Deluxe (blue) valuables → ~1000-1100 credits on average per one item. This is where things start to get interesting. First of all, these are valuables that serve as collectible entries in Codex. So you need to collect them anyway if you're a completionist. That applies to any Valuable rarity above Deluxe too.

Superior (purple) valuables → ~4000 credits on average per one item. These usually drop from events, as we will explain a bit below. You should always pick these up, as they will be the primary source of your income.

Prestige (yellow) valuables → ~12,000 credits on average per one item. These you can only get from difficult events, such as the third wave of Lockdown in Dire Marsh, or inside the strongbox at the end of the Command Wing in Pinwheel Base, Outpost.

Contraband (red) valuables → ~40,000 credits on average per one item. As of now, these you can get only from the Compiler boss in Cryo Archives.

Also, stop picking up things that do not convert into credits:

  • random cheap weapons and core blueprints/schemas you don't need
  • standard salvage like Unstable Diode, Biomass, Lead or Gunmetal

If you need credits, salvage is a distraction. Yes, Sparkleafs might be great for exchange, but do you really need another hundred of them in your vault?

If your inventory is full of gray junk or weapons you won't ever use while valuables are on the floor, you’re just moving objects from one place to another.

And one more thing. Depleted Patch Kits and Depleted Shield Charges do not exfil. They disappear after the raid. Use them if needed, then drop them. Keeping them in your bag is literally burning inventory space.

Valuable Targets

You need to recognize what is worth money instantly.

Below are valuable targets per map from codex progress. You should be prioritizing these.

Any valuable is also a rare drop from elite UESC forces.

Perimeter Valuables

These drop from Intercept and Warden events, as well as Tox Clear rooms, Deluxe and Superior locked key rooms, Supply Drops, Lockboxes, UESC Transport Drones and guarded containers.

These are the the valuables you should be looking for in the raid to get credits fast.

Rook Solo Grind Method

No risk, but also no safety net. You’re solo, no revive or backup. If you die, that’s it.

Marathon Rook Shell

The biggest issue is timing. You often land mid-match when:

  • good loot is already gone
  • events are finished
  • strong squads are ready to extract

The only way Rook makes money is by playing like a rat with a plan. You check the bodies, you grab valuables missed by others, and you ambush players leaving with full inventories. That last part is where the money comes from, as doing events alone on Rook is too dangerous, and the only way you can really get that Deluxe, Superior or Prestige salvage is doing events.

But if you can actually win 1v3 fights on Rook, then the obvious question is: why are you even farming on Rook in the first place? You will make more money doing the same thing in a squad on a proper Shell with better tools, better mobility, better survivability, and access to contracts along the way.

Even the profitable runs are capped by the fact that you are alone. You do not clear the map faster than a full squad, you do not secure events faster than a full squad, and you do not extract more loot than a coordinated trio.

If you have your Rook upgraded through Faction progression, there is one more small economy trick worth mentioning. After a successful extract, you can simply sell the WSTR Combat Shotgun that comes with the Shell for a few thousand extra credits. This is not a real farming strategy by itself and it will never compete with proper event routes or Pinwheel runs, but as a passive credit top-up on repeated Rook extracts, it is perfectly valid if that works for you.

Dire Marsh Lockdown Farm Method

This is the first real farming method.

The idea is to clear the map methodically, prioritize events, take the valuables first, and extract late with a full inventory. That is the first approach that reliably supports the 30K+ per-hour target.

Events are where the loot starts getting interesting. Lockdowns, convoys, wardens, lockbox buildings, and similar objectives all yield expensive loot.

Marathon Dire Marsh Lockdown Event

Lockdown is especially valuable. During Lockdown, you clear elite UESC squads, open a strongbox, and move to the next Lockdown up to three times total. Lockdown frequently gives Superior valuables and salvage, and sometimes even Prestige loot.

But do keep in mind that Lockdown is generally better for farming salvage rather than credits.

This is where 30,000+ credits per hour becomes realistic for a good player or coordinated squad. The biggest weakness is teammates. If your group cannot manage event flow, leaves value behind, or turns every fight into a mess, the method falls apart quickly. You won't make a lot of credits if you're dead half the time.

Outpost Pinwheel Base Method

Before Cryo Archives, this is the best credit farming method. The main goal here is to enter the Command Wing first and loot it.

Pinwheel Base is the most desired and contested loot zone in Outpost. Everything funnels into one structure, and whoever controls it decides how much value leaves the map.

Marathon Outpost Pinwheel Base

Getting into Pinwheel Base itself depends on the state of the raid. There isn’t one fixed path. You either open it with two Access Clearance Codes, take the Conveyance Request Drone Wing elevator, go through Destroyed Wing if the barrier is already lowered, or just follow another squad that opened it before you. If you’re late to any of these, you’re playing catch-up against players who already have keys and loot.

Once inside, the place is massive. Drone Wing and Destroyed Wing are your entry and setup. While moving through the wings, you can find a disable reinforcements button. If you’re getting slowed down by constant UESC waves, you find it and press it.

Best Pinwheel Loot

There are center rooms inside Pinwheel (right outside the entry to the Command Wing), one of them is unlocked from the start and the other requires one Supply and two Master codes. You need to loot both ASAP. If you have the keys, you open the locked room. If you don’t, you don’t waste time looking for the codes, you should have done that before entering Pinwheel.

The next best spot for purple and golds is the strongbox at the end of each wing. Since you're aiming to gain access to Command Wing as your logical next step, and that includes getting to the end of each wing anyway, you should always open them on the way.

Command Wing

Command Wing is the payoff, and it stays locked until you activate it properly. Each of the two side wings has a button / terminal and you need to press both, one in Drone Wing and one in Destroyed Wing, to unlock Command Wing.

Marathon Outpost Pinwheel Command Wing

Once inside, Command Wing has multiple loot rooms, but the only one that really matters for credit farming is the big final room at the end. That is where elite UESC bots spawn, and that is where the strongbox is. Most of the time, this is one of your best chances to pull Superior and Prestige loot, including The Severed Twins valuable.

This is why the whole Pinwheel route is built around getting there fast. You loot the center rooms, open the wing strongboxes on the way, activate both buttons and terminals, and push Command Wing before another squad takes it from you.

And this is also the point where random squads ruin the entire method. Even if you get inside first and do most of the work, random teammates will often just take the loot for themselves the moment the room is cleared. The strongbox is open, the elite UESC are dead, and the valuables you fought for are suddenly sitting in someone else’s inventory.

If you want credits fast and you want all of the good loot, there is a better way to do it: the LevelUpper way.

Our Outpost farming service is handled by top-level Runners, the same caliber of players trusted with Predator carries in Apex Legends and Flawless 7/0 Trials in Destiny 2. In selfplay, you queue with two professional boosters who clear Pinwheel and give the best gear to you, including all valuables, Prestige Shields, Backpacks, Weapons etc.. In piloted runs, three professionals play on your account, and one of them is specifically there to receive and extract all of the loot while the other two control the base.

Cryo Archives

While obviously the best method of farming credits on paper, it is also the hardest one. Cryo Archives is a very high-threat map for a reason. This is not a comfortable solo credit route.

Marathon Cryo ArchivesThe loot there can be absurd. Contraband valuables alone sell for a fortune, and even the map’s regular high-end loot pool is far ahead of what you get on earlier maps.

The main loot zones here are Control, Index, Cargo, Biostock, Preservation, Revival, and Steerage. On top of that, you also have locked Cryo Vaults with AI Subroutines.

Still, the best credit method on Cryo Archives is simple: kill Compiler and extract every time. That is the cleanest way to target the map’s biggest payout and the best shot at the kind of loot that makes this map worth the risk in the first place.

Marathon CompilerAnd yes, that is something we do as well through our Marathon Cryo Archive carry service.

Need Help Getting Credits?

If you want credits without flipping a coin every time you enter Outpost, there is a simpler way to play this, as previously stated.

Instead of forcing bad runs, you can lean into the systems that already work and let experienced players handle the parts that usually go wrong. A strong group can control events, open the right rooms, manage Pinwheel, and actually get you out alive with a full inventory. That means your time turns into credits instead of repeated resets, and your account value grows without you having to stress every run.

What we offer here at LevelUpper is a professional, trusted account boosting service. You can check everything available through the LevelUpper's Marathon boosting hub, or go straight into credit-focused runs and Pinwheel farming if that’s the only thing you care about right now.
