How Marathon Salvage Material Farming Works
Marathon's material system – officially called Salvage – drives all seasonal progression. Every faction upgrade node costs credits plus specific salvage items, and those items only drop from particular zones, containers, and events across Tau Ceti IV.
You have to extract alive to keep anything. Die before exfil and your entire backpack is gone – every piece of salvage from that run, wiped. Marathon Materials Boost skips that loop. Pick your salvage, set a quantity, and receive everything in your vault without running a single extraction.
Salvage Rarities and Where They Drop
Five rarity tiers exist, each gating different levels of faction progression:
- Standard materials – Unstable Biomass, Unstable Gunmetal, Unstable Diode, Unstable Gel, Unstable Lead – drop freely across Perimeter and Dire Marsh from open-world spawns. These feed early faction nodes and CyberAcme's base upgrades. Easy to find individually, but upgrade trees eat them in bulk. You'll burn through dozens before touching Rank 2.
- Enhanced salvage like Fractal Circuits, Drone Resin, Surveillance Lens, and Deimosite Rods comes from specific POIs and Standard-tier containers (Arms Lockers, Tool Carts, Bioprinters, Core Storage, Medical Cabinets, Munitions Crates). These materials start the mid-tier grind – most faction upgrades from Rank 2 onward require multiple Enhanced items per node.
- Deluxe materials – Paradox Circuits, Biomata Resin, Volatile Compounds, Chitin Sample, UESC Obedience Matrix, and others – also drop from Deluxe Locked Rooms on top of regular container sources. Locked Rooms cost resources to open and tend to attract other Runners going after the same loot.
- Superior salvage is where farming gets rough. Items like Predictive Framework, Biolens Seed, Ballistic Turbine, Neural Insulation, Enzyme Replicator, and Reflex Coil drop from UESC Incursion events, Lockdown Zones, and Superior Locked Rooms that need keys or codes to access. These events draw other Runners and heavy UESC security, making extraction significantly harder.
- Prestige is the endgame ceiling. Alien Alloy, Synapse Cube, Hazard Capsule, and Biogenic Alloy are the rarest salvage in Marathon. These likely spawn in Cryo Archive and behind Prestige Locked Rooms that require keys or access codes to open. Availability is extremely limited, competition for them is intense, and solo farming at this tier is brutal without endgame gear.

Time Problem With Material Farming
Each faction uses a different set of salvage. CyberAcme pulls from Unstable materials and rubber compounds. Traxus wants rods, wires, explosives, and alloys. NuCaloric demands biostrippings, seeds, chemical packs. Sekiguchi needs circuits, drives, and insulation. Arachne feeds on resins, nodes, and gel. MIDA runs through compounds, lenses, and turbines.
Pushing even one faction from Rank 1 to max means dozens of extractions targeting specific POIs across multiple maps. Two or three factions? Hundreds of runs, and every death resets your backpack to zero.
None of it carries over between seasons either. Season resets wipe all faction upgrades, purchased nodes, and materials. Next season, same grind from scratch. Marathon Materials Boost compresses what takes weeks of farming into inventory you can spend immediately on faction tree upgrades.
Faction-Specific Material Demand
Every faction tree has its own salvage appetite. Knowing which materials your build needs before ordering saves time and credits:
- CyberAcme (vault expansion, credit wallet, loot speed) uses Standard Unstable items at lower ranks, then pulls Enhanced and Deluxe rubbers, xerogels, and processors for mid-tier nodes. Shell IDs from High-Value Targets and Supply Drops fuel upper upgrades.
- Traxus (weapon mods, armory access, ping duration) is the most material-hungry faction. Rods, wires, explosives, and filaments from Dire Marsh and Perimeter at lower tiers. Predictive Frameworks, Ballistic Turbines, and Alien Alloy at the top. If you want full Traxus mod access, expect the longest material list of any faction.
- NuCaloric (consumables, backpacks, shield charges, resistances) eats Biostrippings, Dermachem and Neurochem Packs, Tarax Seeds, and Biolens Seeds. Mid-tier nodes need Conductive Filaments and Encrypted Drives. Endgame unlocks demand Hazard Capsules at Prestige tier.
- Sekiguchi (cores, implants, energy amps, DBNO time) runs through Fractal and Paradox Circuits, Storage and Amygdala Drives, Neural Insulation, and Synapse Cubes at Prestige tier.
- Arachne (PvP weapons, melee damage, revive speed) needs Drone and Biomata Resins, Nodes, Enzyme Replicators, and Reflex Coils. Synapse Cubes gate the final capstone nodes.
- MIDA (grenades, explosives, equipment, anti-virus protection) consumes Dynamic and Volatile Compounds, Surveillance and Thoughtwave Lenses, and Alien Alloy for endgame.
Not sure what your next upgrade costs? Open your Factions tab, highlight the node you want, and hit Track – the game marks required salvage on your map.

FAQ
What are Marathon materials?
Marathon calls them Salvage – items found during runs that you extract to your vault. Salvage is used to purchase faction upgrade nodes (alongside credits) and to barter for weapons, consumables, and gear at the Armory. Five rarity tiers exist: Standard, Enhanced, Deluxe, Superior, and Prestige, with higher rarities dropping from more dangerous zones and events.
Which materials do I need for faction upgrades?
Each of Marathon's six factions uses a different material set. CyberAcme focuses on Unstable items and rubber compounds, Traxus needs rods and explosives, NuCaloric requires biostrippings and chemical packs, and so on. Open your Factions tab in-game and inspect any upgrade node to see its exact salvage cost. Our Marathon Materials Boost lets you order precisely what each node demands.
Where do Prestige materials drop?
Prestige salvage – Alien Alloy, Synapse Cube, Hazard Capsule, Biogenic Alloy – is expected to drop primarily from Cryo Archive and Prestige Locked Rooms requiring keys or access codes. Cryo Archive is Marathon's endgame zone on the UESC ship, gated behind progression and featuring the hardest enemies. These materials are needed for capstone faction nodes and top-tier barter purchases.
Do I lose materials if I die before extracting?
Everything in your backpack is lost on death, including salvage. Only items already stored in your vault survive. This is why material farming is so frustrating – one bad fight near exfil erases an entire run's worth of collecting. Our materials service bypasses extraction risk completely.
Can I order materials for a specific faction upgrade?
Absolutely. Select the rarity tier, pick the exact items your upgrade node requires, and set the quantity. If you need 5 Paradox Circuits and 3 Neural Insulation for a Sekiguchi node, order exactly that. No unwanted filler.
How long does Marathon materials farm take?
Depends on rarity and quantity. Standard and Enhanced materials process fastest since they drop in accessible zones. Superior and Prestige orders take longer because those materials require UESC Incursions, Lockdown Zones, and Cryo Archive runs with higher failure risk. Priority option moves your order to the front of the queue for faster starts.
Should I farm materials myself or buy them?
If you're focusing one or two factions and playing daily, you'll accumulate lower-rarity salvage naturally. But pushing three or more factions, or needing Superior and Prestige materials for high-rank nodes, means dozens of targeted extraction runs with constant death risk. Marathon salvage farming services make sense when the time investment outweighs the gameplay you actually enjoy.
Do materials reset every season?
All salvage in your vault carries between runs within a season, but seasonal resets wipe everything – purchased upgrades, faction ranks, and stored materials. Each season (roughly every 3 months) you rebuild from zero. Stockpiling materials early gives compounding advantages for the rest of the season since you can unlock upgrade nodes faster.
What's the difference between Salvage and Enhanced Salvage?
Salvage is the broad category covering all faction upgrade materials. "Enhanced Salvage" is a specific rarity tier (green items) within that system. Confusingly, some Enhanced Salvage items also function as barter currency at the Armory for consumables and ammo. Standard Unstable items serve a similar barter function at lower tiers.
Can I use materials for anything besides faction upgrades?
Yes – Salvage doubles as barter currency. Visit any faction's Armory shop and switch to the Barter Wares tab to trade specific materials for ammo, healing items, consumables, and gear. This means surplus materials from a boost order aren't wasted – you can barter extras for raid supplies instead of selling for credits.
