3. Your Runner grinds the feats - Focused Sentinel runs target each challenge condition: Snare Mine immobilization follow-ups, single-deploy projectile intercepts, Castle Doctrine weapon kills, and Prey Tracker multi-elimination windows.
4. Cosmetics stay on your account - Shadow Index, orientation emblems, backgrounds, and INTEL entries unlock permanently on the Codex tab for Sentinel.

What Is Sentinel in Marathon?

Sentinel is Marathon's defensive Runner shell, added in Season 2 on June 2, 2026. It is built for area control: holding exfil zones, breaking rushes, and protecting a crew under grenade or missile pressure.

The kit breaks down like this:

• Defender System (Prime) - Deploy an automated platform that destroys incoming grenades and missiles. Crewmates near the device get better weapon stability and reload speed. Charges are limited, so timing the deploy matters in live fights.
• Snare Mine (Tactical) - Throw a proximity mine that detonates into immobilizing submunitions when hostiles walk into range.
• Castle Doctrine (Passive) - Faster ready and reload on SMGs, shotguns, and pistols when surrounded by nearby hostiles. Splash damage briefly boosts Hardware, Firewall, and Self-Repair Speed.
• Prey Tracker (Trait) - Short-range motion tracking that reveals moving hostiles in the direction you are facing while active.

Codex splits Sentinel into Orientation (exfil and ability-use milestones) and Mastery (five PvP skill feats). Complete all five mastery challenges and the Master Sentinel meta awards Shadow Index, a Deluxe Runner Shell style in the Rampart series. Progress is account-wide and carries between seasons.

1. NOT SO FAST - Eliminate 10 hostile Runners shortly after immobilizing them with Snare Mine while on Sentinel.
2. IMPENETRABLE - Destroy 6 projectiles with a single Defender System deployment on Sentinel.
3. RIPOSTE - Down a hostile Runner after intercepting their projectile with Defender System on Sentinel.
4. POSTED UP - Eliminate 25 hostiles with SMGs, shotguns, or pistols while Castle Doctrine is active on Sentinel.
5. INFORMATION ECONOMY - Eliminate 5 hostiles during one Prey Tracker activation on Sentinel.

Exfil and Ability Milestones on Sentinel

• Sentinel Exfil (0/20) - Exfil 20 times using a Sentinel shell. Reward: Checkmate Standard Deluxe profile emblem ("Control the board.") plus Sentinel shell INTEL.
• Tactical Sentinel (0/50) - Use Snare Mine 50 times across all runs. Reward: Snare Mine INTEL entry.
• Prime Sentinel (0/25) - Use Defender System 25 times across all runs. Reward: Defensive POV Deluxe profile background ("Always on guard.") plus Defender System INTEL.

Orientation milestones award Checkmate Standard, Defensive POV, and INTEL entries on their own track. Finish them before, after, or alongside mastery.

Why Sentinel Mastery Takes Time Solo

Most Sentinel mastery feats need a specific fight shape, and pub lobbies rarely line all of them up in one deploy.

• Impenetrable wants six intercepted projectiles from a single Defender System placement. Rocket drone salvos, grenade trades, and missile pressure are the realistic sources - but a quiet lobby may never feed six shots before the device expires.
• Riposte adds a second step: intercept a Runner's projectile, then down that same Runner before the credit window closes. One mistimed push and the intercept counts without the down.
• Not So Fast chains Snare Mine immobilization into a quick elimination 10 separate times. Hostiles who dodge the mine, die to your crew first, or break free before you finish the kill do not advance the counter.
• Posted Up asks for 25 close-range weapon kills while Castle Doctrine is active, which means staying in crowded fights with SMGs, shotguns, or pistols instead of picking safer mid-range angles.
• Information Economy packs five eliminations into a single Prey Tracker window. You need targets moving into your lane fast enough to collapse before the trait ends.
