Weapons in Marathon aren't permanent unlocks. There's no blueprint system, no crafting bench, no guaranteed vendor stock. You find guns in crates, loot them off dead Runners, or pull them from map events – then extract alive or lose everything. One bad fight near exfil and that sniper you spent 20 minutes hunting is gone.

Mod Slots and Build Depth

Each weapon supports multiple mod slots that vary by gun. Assault rifles might take an Optic, Magazine, Chip, and Grip. Machine guns swap Grip for a Shield slot. Precision rifles run their own Optic, Chip, and Magazine configurations. Knowing which slots matter for your playstyle is half the build.

Mod rarity directly affects combat performance. Enhanced mods give small stat bumps – fine for runs where you're not risking much. Deluxe mods add real tactical advantages with multiple attachment bonuses. But Superior mods are where things get interesting: some carry specific perks, and others fundamentally change how a weapon fires or handles. Ornithologist is a Superior Chip that activates a Sneak Class ability. Flash Draw Chip restores health or shields when damaging enemies. Weighted Barrel at Superior tier boosts aim assist and accuracy while moving.

Pairing high-rarity mods with guns known for strong burst damage or quick kill times creates loadouts that dominate both PvE and Runner-on-Runner fights.

Why Runners Need Backup Weapons

Death in Marathon strips everything. Weapons, mods, consumables, backpack contents – gone. Only Runner Level and faction reputation survive. Players who run a single copy of their best gun are one ambush away from deploying with starter gear next round.

Experienced Runners keep 3-5 copies of their primary and secondary weapons vaulted at all times. That's 6-10 successful extractions just to maintain a safety net – before you even count mods. When each extraction run takes 15-25 minutes and carries real risk of total loss, farming weapon stockpiles eats time fast.

Marathon Best Weapons Worth Farming

Not every weapon is worth filling vault space with. Some guns punch way above their weight class, and knowing which ones to stockpile saves time and credits. Weapon balance may shift with patches, so treat these as launch-window picks rather than permanent truth.

• WSTR Combat Shotgun is arguably the most dangerous close-range weapon in Marathon. In shotgun range, fights end before they start. Community rates it highly despite only supporting a small number of mod slots, because raw stopping power matters more than customization when you're clearing rooms and holding tight corridors.

• V11 Punch surprises people. It's a pistol, but its kill speed rivals weapons twice its size. Low cost to bring into runs makes it excellent as a backup that can actually win duels. Pair it with a long-range primary and you're covered at every distance.

• BR33 Volley Rifle fires three-round bursts and kills fast at mid-range. Precision rifles dominate Marathon's sightlines and BR33 offers burst damage that punishes slow reactions. High compatible mod count gives it real build flexibility depending on rarity tier.

• Longshot is the sniper players gravitate toward. Highest firepower in the sniper category, excellent range, and strong zoom for overwatch positions. Community consensus rates it top of its class. Longshot with Superior mods is a loadout-defining weapon worth stacking multiple copies of.

• V22 Volt Thrower runs on volt ammunition with a smart lock-on system – something unique among SMGs. Kills quickly at close-to-mid range and carries decent handling for aggressive play. Lock-on makes it forgiving during chaotic multi-Runner fights near extraction points.

• Copperhead RF holds the highest compatible mod count in the entire game. Even without standout base damage, that mod flexibility means you can shape it into almost anything depending on what rarity tier you're running. Community rates it at the top for that versatility.

• Demolition HMG brings sustained firepower that chews through both UESC patrols and enemy Runners behind cover. Strong community rating and enough mod support to tune it for either PvE farming or PvP suppression depending on what your crew needs.

Farming multiple copies of 2-3 of these weapons with Deluxe or Superior mods gives you a vault that can absorb several bad runs without sending you back to starter loadouts.

1. Select weapon type and quantity during checkout. Pick specific guns in the order chat.

2. Choose mod options if you want weapons delivered pre-modded. Select rarity tier or skip mods entirely. Adding mods increases farming time since matching mods need to be found and extracted alongside the weapon.

3. Our Runner farms your order through targeted extraction runs, prioritizing zones and events where your selected weapons appear.

4. Weapons land in your vault – piloted orders stock directly. Self-play orders are delivered through in-game trading.
