• Select Ranks: Choose your current rank and desired rank. Pricing adjusts based on the gap – climbing from Bronze I to Gold III costs less than pushing Silver II to Diamond I. Subdivisions (I, II, III) matter, so be specific.

Marathon ranked isn't a standard competitive ladder. There's no Elo, no win/loss ratio, no MMR tracking. Instead, it runs on a risk-reward extraction loop built around Holotags – and dying doesn't just stall progress, it actively erases it.

Here's how the system works based on pre-launch information. Bungie hasn't officially detailed every mechanic yet, so some specifics may shift once Season 1 goes live. We'll keep this page updated as ranked launches and settles.

Holotags and Scoring

To queue ranked, every crew member needs three things: a zone selected from the weekly rotation, a loadout meeting the gear ante (minimum gear score), and a purchased Holotag.

Holotag tier determines your score target. Pick a Bronze Holotag and your target is lower – easier to hit but slower rank progress. Pick a Diamond or Pinnacle Holotag and your target jumps significantly, but so does your potential gain. Each Holotag grants starting credits toward your score target on infil: Silver gives 5000, Diamond gives 15000, Pinnacle gives 20000. Bronze, Gold, and Platinum values aren't confirmed yet.

Score itself comes from extracting with enough credit value in your backpack. Loot up, hit your target, extract alive – rank goes up. Extract early without meeting target? Nothing happens, no gain or loss. Die before extracting? Lose points equal to your full score target. That last part is what makes climbing painful. One bad extraction doesn't just waste time – it actively sets you back.

PvP Incentive: Stealing Holotags

Kill another Runner carrying a Holotag and you loot it. This does two things: adds credits directly to your score, and raises your credit ceiling for that match above your original target. Higher-tier stolen Holotags give more – looting a Pinnacle Holotag from another player expands your ceiling by 4000 credits, Diamond by 3000, Silver by 1000.

This means aggressive PvP play gets rewarded in ranked. At higher tiers like Diamond and Pinnacle, hunting other Runners' Holotags may be the only efficient way to consistently meet score targets. But dying while carrying those tags gives your killer the same advantage – so the risk cuts both ways.

Ranks and Subdivisions

Six confirmed ranks with three tiers each:

1. Bronze I, II, III

2. Silver I, II, III

3. Gold I, II, III

4. Platinum I, II, III

5. Diamond I, II, III

6. Pinnacle I, II, III

A seventh "Master" rank has been mentioned but isn't confirmed. If it exists, expect it to be a top-percentile bracket similar to Grandmaster tiers in other competitive games.

Zone Access and Restrictions

Bronze through Gold players access Low-Stakes Zones only. Reaching Platinum unlocks High-Stakes Zones with better loot density but harder competition – everyone in there has earned their way past Gold. Zones rotate weekly, so map knowledge needs to stay current.

Some ranked zones require a full crew – no solo entry. You either bring teammates or use matchmaking. This is a significant detail for solo players who want to rank up but can't consistently find groups.

Ranked Rewards

Cosmetic items tied to rank progression. Some unlock immediately as you hit milestones. Others are end-of-season rewards based on your final standing – maintain a certain rank over the season and you earn additional cosmetics when it resets. Exact reward lists will be confirmed once Season 1 launches.

Why Ranked Climbing Is Rough

Ranked Marathon compounds every frustration the base game already has. Normal extraction runs risk your gear. Ranked runs risk your gear AND your rank progress. Die with a Pinnacle Holotag equipped and you're looking at a massive point deduction plus whatever loadout you brought – weapons, mods, consumables, all gone.

Add gear ante requirements on top and ranked becomes expensive to play. You can't cheese it with budget loadouts. Every deployment needs real gear, which means every death burns through your vault stockpile. Players who aren't extracting at a high rate drain their resources faster than they can replace them.

For solo players, the crew-only zones make things harder. Matchmade teammates don't coordinate like premade groups, and one teammate dying can cascade into a full squad wipe that costs everyone rank progress.

How Marathon Ranked Boost Works

1. Pick your rank range – Select your current rank and desired rank, including subdivision (e.g., Bronze II to Gold I). Pricing scales based on the gap between tiers.

2. Share account details – For piloted service, provide login credentials through order chat. For self-play, share your in-game ID so we can crew up. We confirm your current standing and give a realistic timeframe once Season 1 queue behavior is clear.

3. Ranked climbing begins – Our Runners deploy into weekly rotating zones with loadouts meeting the gear ante. Smart Holotag selection per match, high extraction rates, and loot value optimization keep rank moving forward consistently. Vault gets restocked between sessions so the ante never runs dry.

4. You get everything earned – Desired rank achieved, all cosmetic rewards from milestones hit along the way, extracted weapons, credits, and any faction reputation gained during ranked sessions. Recap through order chat covers rank gained and notable loot.
