The Exotic Class items will be part of a new activity that unlocks after the Raid World First, at the beginning of Week 2.  Bungie doesn’t want to spoil what the activity is all about or how to unlock it, but they mentioned that it's farmable, and you will get a guaranteed random roll each time you complete it.

By combining Exotic Class item perks, you can significantly improve your class ability, get empowered weapon damage, or enhance your finishers and powered melee attacks. 

With a Warlock Exotic Class item you can make Spirit of the Necrotic and Spirit of the Synthoceps combination. For a Hunter you can make Spirit of the Coyote and Spirit of the Dragon combo. You’ll gain an additional class ability charge and your class ability reloads all weapons. Titan can have Spirit of the Assassin and Spirit of the Contact. Your melee attack final blows grant invisibility and melee attacks cause all nearby enemies to suffer lightning strikes and become jolted.
