How PoE 2 Progression Works

Campaign and Ascendancy

Getting a character to maps requires clearing all acts and surviving the interludes. Along the way, your build's real power is gated behind Ascendancy points.

These points are earned in specialized encounters like the Trial of the Sekhemas, where you navigate traps and bosses while managing your Honor resource, or the Trial of Chaos, which requires surviving waves of escalating Ultimatum modifiers. The difficulty spikes hard, especially on tier 3 and 4 trials.

Atlas and Masters

Once in maps, progression splits. You have a 200+ point Atlas tree to fill out by completing maps and finishing Fortress storylines.

At the same time, you need to unlock and level the new Masters of the Atlas (Doryani, Hilda, and Jado). Each Master has their own questline, and you can only allocate 4 points per Master. You swap between them freely at your map device to change how your maps behave, but doing the initial quests for all of them takes time.

Genesis Tree

Deterministic crafting in the endgame is tied to the Keepers of the Flame (Breach) storyline. You have to stabilize breaches, fight off waves, and defeat bosses like Tul and Esh to earn Hiveblood.

Hiveblood is not tradeable, meaning you have to engage with the mechanic directly. You spend it on the Genesis Tree, investing points to bias the outcome of the items you craft using Wombgifts dropped by Breach commanders.

FAQ

I got stuck in the middle of the campaign. Do I need to buy a full boost?

No, you do not have to pay for a full boost. If you hit a wall in Act 4 because your damage fell off, we offer partial campaign completion. Our booster will take over from your exact checkpoint, fix your immediate gearing issues, and push the character the rest of the way to maps.
