Crystalline Conflict launched in Patch 6.1 as Final Fantasy XIV's fast-paced competitive PvP mode, replacing The Feast as the premier ranked PvP experience. Two teams of five players (Team Astra and Team Umbra) clash in 5-10 minute matches across three rotating arenas – The Palaistra, Volcanic Heart, and Cloud Nine. Players advance through risers (sub-levels within each tier) by accumulating three Rising Stars, then start the next riser with one star. Achieving three consecutive victories activates streak bonuses that grant two stars per win instead of one.

Crystalline Conflict matches revolve around controlling the Tactical Crystal, which spawns at arena center after a 30-second preparation phase. When players from a single team occupy the ring around the crystal's base, they push it along the Crystal Line toward the enemy goal. The crystal moves faster when traveling between checkpoints and the controlling team's current progress marker. Teams must balance aggressive pushes with defensive positioning, as enemy eliminations reset respawn timers and create windows for crystal control reversals.

Seasonal rewards reset when new Crystalline Conflict seasons begin, typically aligning with major FFXIV patches. Trophy Crystals exchange at the Crystal Quartermaster in Wolves' Den Pier (X:4.4, Y:6.1) for glamour weapons, armor sets, and previous season's Framer's Kits.

PvP combat in Crystalline Conflict uses specialized job abilities distinct from PvE rotations. Gear stats are normalized, meaning item level doesn't affect performance – only player skill and job mastery determine match outcomes. Jobs receive streamlined action sets with unique crowd control abilities, burst damage windows, and support skills. Recuperate and Purify are universal defensive tools that prevent instant deaths from coordinated enemy burst combinations.

The Gloria-class Airship mount represents one of FFXIV's rarest PvP achievements, requiring 200 total match victories across The Feast or Crystalline Conflict. This flying mount displays players standing on its deck, serving as a prestigious status symbol in Eorzea. Wolf Marks earned through match participation purchase exclusive PvP glamours spanning all FFXIV expansions, while Series rewards deliver themed cosmetics tied to Frontlines maps and PvP history.
