The Heir Apparent Catalyst is an upgrade that takes the power of your exotic machine gun to the next level. In Destiny 2, this Catalyst is available exclusively during the Guardian Games event and is centered on the Competitive Catalyst quest. The upgrade adds the formidable Legion's Bulwark perk, which enhances the durability of your Arc shield and a partial reload of your magazine when the shield breaks.

Unlocking the Catalyst begins after you've secured the Heir Apparent Exotic. The next phase involves depositing Gold and Platinum medals at the Guardian Games podium to accumulate 50 medal points. These medals are earned by completing various event challenges and providing the quest. Once the medal point requirement is met, the quest continues with the completion of three Contender Cards. These cards challenge you to participate in different activities: Strikes, Gambit, or Crucible.

The final step in the Catalyst quest is to earn 90 Competitive Spirit, a unique currency acquired by scoring machine gun kills during the Daily Focus activities. The Catalyst upgrade becomes available once you've accumulated the necessary Competitive Spirit. However, to fully unlock its benefits, you must also complete an additional 500 weapon kills with the Heir Apparent. This kill requirement ensures that only the most dedicated Guardians can enjoy the full potential of Legion's Bulwark.

The rewards are substantial: an enhanced Arc shield that provides offensive and defensive advantages and a reload mechanism that can turn the tide in prolonged fights.
