These thresholds correspond to Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum ranks. For example, in the Nightfall Competitive playlist, reaching around 175,000 points in a single run qualifies as a Platinum score (with lower thresholds for Gold, Silver, and Bronze at roughly 150k, 100k, and 50k, respectively). You unlock the respective Scoring Torch at the Tower for that category every time you hit one of these thresholds for the first time in a given week. There are a total of 8 torches to ignite each week – four tied to the PvE Strike scores and four tied to the PvP Supremacy scores (each set representing Bronze through Platinum).

To ignite a torch, you must visit the Tower Podium area (where the class banners are displayed). Behind Eva's podium, a series of floating torch platforms becomes available once unlocked. Lighting the Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum torch will immediately grant a reward package corresponding to that rank. Notably, higher-tier torches yield better rewards – for instance, a Platinum torch can drop an Ascendant Shard, Enhancement Prisms, and event-specific weapons like The Title SMG. In contrast, a Bronze torch might grant a smaller bundle of Glimmer and a couple of upgrade cores. All lit torches also confer a temporary Tower glow on your Guardian. The glow's color indicates the highest tier you reached (for example, a Platinum glow if you hit that level). This effect is a point of pride: while in the Tower, everyone can see if you achieved Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum that week by the aura on your character's class armor.

The PvE side of Torch Ignition centers on the "Nightfall: Competitive" playlist (sometimes called Guardian Games Competitive Strike). This is a single strike with modifiers, akin to a Nightfall on Hero difficulty, where scoring is enabled. Your objective is to earn as many points as possible before the boss is defeated (or before the 20-minute mark, which triggers score decay). Efficiency and coordination are rewarded – defeating numerous enemies, generating Orbs of Light, and earning Vanguard Strike Medals (for multi-kills, elemental kills, etc.) will boost your score. Hitting the score thresholds in this mode progresses Zavala's Shoot to Score quest. If you accumulate 175,000+ points in one run, you could unlock Bronze through Platinum torches all at once (since higher scores automatically count for the lower medal thresholds too). However, you can also improve your standing gradually: for example, one run might only get 90,000 (unlocking Silver), and a subsequent attempt might push past 150,000 to add Gold and Platinum. Only when the Competitive playlist is active (Friday reset through weekly reset on Tuesday) can you ignite the PvE torches – so timing is important. If you hit a threshold on Tuesday afternoon after the Competitive window has closed, you'll need to wait until it reopens (or the following week) to light the torch.

On the PvP side, the Torch Ignition uses the Guardian Games: Supremacy mode. This is a class-based Crucible playlist where all teams are composed of the same class, and you score by collecting crests dropped by defeated opponents (similar to core Supremacy mode). The Vying for Supremacy quest from Shaxx tracks your points across Supremacy matches for the week. Unlike the Nightfall, the Supremacy scoring is cumulative over several matches​. You do not need an individual game to hit a certain number. Instead, every match (win or lose) contributes to your running total. For instance, reaching Bronze might require a few hundred points total – even average PvP players will achieve this after a handful of games. The thresholds then scale up (Silver, Gold, etc.), and eventually, after continued play, you will reach Platinum in Supremacy as well​. This design rewards dedicated participation, even if one match fails. Once each threshold is passed in the quest, the corresponding PvP torch in the Tower becomes available to light (note: the Supremacy torches can typically be lit at any time during the week, as that mode is available continuously while the event is live).
