What is Double Up?

Double Up is TFT's dedicated 2v2v2v2 ranked mode where you and your partner share a combined health pool, coordinate compositions, and reinforce each other in real time. When one board finishes combat early, surviving units jump to the partner's board, keeping their items and trait bonuses intact.

These reinforcements often flip close fights, and mastering their timing is central to winning high-MMR lobbies. Unlike solo TFT, Double Up rewards cooperative tempo control, synchronized leveling, and well-timed stabilization over pure individual execution.

Trading units & items

Item and unit trading is a core mechanic. Partners can send champions or item components through a dedicated transfer slot – an evolution of the Rune of Allegiance system used in prior sets.

Earlier versions offered staged “Lesser” and “Greater” runes, while modern iterations streamline the flow so teammates can share power instantly. TFT Double Up boosting operates within the same rank structure as standard TFT. You climb through Iron, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Master, Grandmaster, and Challenger with four divisions per tier until Master.

Promotion happens automatically at 100 LP, and LP overflow carries forward, making a well-executed TFT Double Up boost extremely efficient for continuous progression.

There are no rank restrictions on who can queue together – you can duo with any player at any rank. Double Up also shields you from tier demotion, though division demotions occur if LP drops below zero.

The Top-2 rule is central: you never lose LP for finishing Top-2 in TFT Double Up, which is why professional TFT Double Up boosting focuses heavily on stabilizing mid-game tempo and avoiding 5th–8th placements.

What affects your LP

Matchmaking in TFT Double Up is based on the higher-ranked teammate, which means mixed-rank lobbies become significantly tougher. This directly affects the pace of a TFT Double Up boost, as boosters must navigate Diamond–Master lobbies even when the customer begins in Gold or Platinum. LP gains differ per account because each player has their own hidden MMR. A lower-MMR partner can receive +40 LP for the same placement where a higher-MMR partner gets +20 LP.

Players below Platinum also gain streak bonuses for consecutive Top-2 finishes, capped after six streaks. This streak system dramatically increases TFT Double Up boost efficiency when properly managed. Beating higher-ranked duos grants additional LP; losing to lower-ranked duos causes steeper penalties.
